Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality Test

The Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) test is offered by the National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ). The CPHQ test is a voluntary certification available to quality management professionals in the health-care field. This certification comes with many benefits, such as special recognition, competence and professionalism, as well as possible increased job opportunities, salaries, and bonuses. The unique aspect of the CPHQ test is that there are no eligibility requirements. There is no minimum amount of education of experience required. Anyone who desires to certify their knowledge in health-care management can qualify for the examination, and candidates from various backgrounds have passed the test. However, the CPHQ test is not for entry-level candidates. The questions on the test assume that you have at least two years of experience working in health-care quality management.

To take the CPHQ test, you must first apply online or via mail. The online application is preferred, since it is much quicker. The fee is $370 for NAHQ members and $440 for non-members. Once your application and payment information have been processed, you can schedule your test immediately. You can take the next available test after two business days. If you apply with a paper application through the mail, it can take two to four weeks to process your information. After your eligibility is confirmed, you will still need to make an appointment online or by telephone. It’s important to note there are no refunds whatsoever, so be sure you can take the CPHQ test at your scheduled time. The CPHQ test can be taken at more than 170 testing centers nationwide. Tests are typically administered Monday through Fridays, with limited evening and Saturday appointments available.

On test day, be sure to bring two forms of ID, both which must include a signature. One must also contain a current photograph. You should not bring any personal belongings to the testing center. Scratch paper and pencils will be provided. The CPHQ test is computer-based and consists of 140 multiple-choice questions that must be completed within three hours. There are three main types of questions: application, recall, and analysis. Application questions account for 53 percent of the test and require you to interpret information and apply it to a situation. Recall questions account for 32 percent of the test and assess your knowledge of facts and concepts related to health care quality management. Analysis questions account for 15 percent of the test and assess your judgment and ability to solve problems.

After you finish the CPHQ test, you will be asked to complete a short evaluation and then report to the test proctor, who will immediately provide you with your test results. The score report will show a score for each of the categories, your total score, and your pass-or-fail status. Those who pass the CPHQ test will receive a certificate, ID card, pin, and recertification information within eight weeks. Individuals are certified for two years. If you fail the CPHQ test, you can retake it in 90 days, and there is no limit to the number of times you can retake the test.
