To take good notes, you have to find a way to get yourself motivated and keep yourself motivated. Unfortunately, if you’re like most people, you’ve probably already realized that note taking isn’t the most exciting pastime. In fact, you may have already realized that it can be difficult for you to get up the motivation to take, revise, and review the notes that you need. It is important to note, however, that you have to find some way to get up the motivation that you need because you simply won’t be able to take effective notes without the appropriate motivation.

- The first reason is that you’ll be more likely to take all of the notes that you need to take if you have a reason to take them. This is because a student is much more likely to complete all of the needed tasks, whether it be homework, taking notes, studying, or any other school task, when he or she understands the benefit that will be received as a result of performing that task. This means that your desire to ace all of your classes, get better scores on each of your exams, get into a good college, learn the material you need to learn to succeed in the career you want to enter, and/or obtain a number of other similar benefits will make you more likely to takes the notes that you need to take.
- The second reason that you need to find a way to get motivated is that you will be much more likely to use your notes if you have a reason to use them. This is because a student is much more likely to review and revise notes if he or she is preparing for a specific test, like a license or certification exam, is attempting to learn the concepts needed to perform a specific procedure, is attempting to find the information needed to obtain a specific position, or is preparing for any other situation in which the notes may be useful.
